Dr Nicholas Inston graduated in medicine from the University of Nottingham with a BMedSci awarded in 1991 and BM BS in 1993.
His first post was in the Professorial Dept of Surgery at QMC, Nottingham and thereafter as Anatomy Demonstrator at Nottingham University, surgical training on the Warwickshire and Worcestershire rotation and higher surgical training in the West Midlands Deanery.
Developing an interest in transplantation he awarded a PhD in Medicine from the University of Birmingham for studies on the Immunology of transplant rejection. Following completion of surgical training (CCT) and fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England he was appointed as Consultant Surgeon in 2008 at Renal Unit at the University Hospital Birminghams NHS Trust. He has a speciality interest in the surgery related to kidney diseases. This includes general surgery in patients with renal failure, vascular access for dialysis, polycystic kidney disease, living kidney donation and transplantation.
His research interests are maintained with key areas of scientific research being the biological basis of neointimal hyperplasia, biomarkers of kidney injury and the immunology of transplantation. In addition he is active in clinical research studies and trials on vascular access and transplantation.This research has resulted in presentation to international meetings and peer reviewed publications.
He has been an invited speaker and acts as a reviewer for major journals.
He is ex president VASBI and currently sits on council of VAS. In addition he is clinical lead for Transplant Links Community Charity, providing training for transplantation for the developing world.
