Biography
Carlos E Ruiz is a professor of paediatrics and medicine and serves as the Director of the Congenital and Structural Heart Disease for the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System and Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute of New York. Dr Ruiz has authored more than 250 publications and has served as lead investigator in numerous national and international clinical studies. He pioneered the field of percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty, and was the first to describe the use of stents to maintain patency of the Ductus Arteriosus in the newborn with single ventricle physiology. More recently, with Drs Grube and Laborde, he pioneered the transcatheter aortic valve replacement using the self-expanding CoreValve prosthesis. As a national leader in education, Dr Ruiz was founder of the first Transcatheter Valve Symposium and serves as a Board member of EuroPCR. He has served for two terms as Trustee of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions and in numerous committees of the American College of Cardiology.
